COLOUR AWAKENED ART SERIES 02
Only the second of its kind, Rio Tinto’s 2024 Beyond Rare™ Tender: The Art Series 02 featured 76 exquisite diamonds, including a 4.04ct D-colour Pear shape and a 2.47ct Fancy Intense Yellow Modified Cushion cut from the Diavik Diamond Mine.
Following the success of the debut collection in 2023, Rio Tinto unveiled its second collection showcasing the world’s most extraordinary masterpieces — diamonds of supreme rarity and beauty.
Titled Colour Awakened, the Art Series 02 was a vivid expression of potent colour. Comprised of 48 lots, including individual diamonds and curated sets, the Art Series 02 honoured the surreal chain of earthly events where a diamond’s radiant hues, once concealed, are brought to life through the skilled hands of master artisans.
This extraordinary curation also included pink, red and blue Argyle Diamonds™ sourced from Rio Tinto’s remaining polished inventory alongside the yellow and white diamonds from the Diavik Diamond Mine. These exquisite shades, sourced from opposite corners of the Earth, are surpassed only by the purity of their provenance.
Bidding for Rio Tinto’s second Beyond Rare™ Tender: Art Series collection closed on 18 November 2024 with results reflecting the extraordinary rarity and unique provenance of the collection. These precious gems now pass to new custodians – each becoming an inspiration to artisans across the globe, with 12 individual winners, located in Australia, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, the Middle East, Singapore and North America.
Lot 40, comprising the 4.04ct D-colour Pear shape from the Diavik Diamond Mine, together with two pear shaped violet diamonds from the Argyle Diamond Mine, is entrusted to Danish luxury jeweller Hartmanns, who will collaborate with Argyle Pink Diamonds Icon Partner™ Glajz to craft an heirloom piece of jewellery.
“I am honoured to be creating a jewelled treasure that reflects each magnificent birthplace of these three esteemed diamonds – Argyle in the remote East Kimberley region of Western Australia and Diavik, just below the Arctic Circle on the frozen edge of the earth in Canada’s Northwest Territories.”
